Considerations When Buying a Home Treadmill

December 3, 2009 · Filed Under Health Related Article · Comment

Home treadmills are very well-liked types of work out equipment that give great cardio workouts and are very easy to use. Treadmills that are electric powered are the most widely used but also available are self powered treadmills. Cheaper treadmills can be found for approximately $300 although, for better value and to ensure the treadmill lasts reasonable long, it would be better if you to purchase a more expensive treadmill.

One advantage of a home treadmill, is, of course, is that you don’t have to go out to a gym. You will particularly be pleased about this during the winter when it gets dark early and it’s cold. Much more comfortable to work out in the comfort of your home! A further advantage is that you can read, listen to music or watch TV during your workout which will prevent you from getting bored.

Choosing a Home Treadmill

Although, as as stated above, treadmills are available for under $200  they will be poor quality and will lack some of the extras of costlier models. You also need to investigate the extra features available, such as the program range since a broader range will give you more variety in your workout workout and prevent boredom. It is also a good idea to have a built in heart rate monitor so that you can monitor and control the level of cardio exercise. Even though you may be tempted to choose a less expensive treadmill this may be a false economy eventually because It won’t last very long or give you a good workout. Another consideration is how many people will be using the treadmill and their weight. If your treadmill will be used by two or more joggers than consider spending around 00 and for two serious runners around 00 - 2000.

Also look at the weight maximum of the treadmill you are considering purchasing. Some of the manufacturers exaggerate the weight limits therefore, especially if you are overweight, buy a treadmill that is rated for slightly more than your actual weight. Bear in mind that, even though you only intend to walk on the treadmill, when you become fitter you may find yourself exercising much more vigorously. If you bought a poor quality treadmill you might have to purchase an additional one more suitable for your improved fitness! It would be easier to buy a more expensive machine initially.

In Conclusion

Choosing a home treadmill may be harder than simply visiting the mall and picking one out. Carefully consider how you will be using your treadmill and the features you need. Ensure that you acquire one that will last you and is able to stand up to the different types of workouts you’ll be doing.
