A TV Special About Alcoholism Signs Leads to Some Uneasy and Miserable Emotions About a Young Female’s Irresponsible and Abusive Drinking

October 15, 2009 · Filed Under Health Related Article · Comment

Daniel had been engaging in irresponsible drinking behavior since her senior year in college. Now, six years later, she drank more than ever.  One Sunday evening when she was feeling a bit run down, Daniel decided to stay home, relax, and watch television.

While looking for a special program to watch that would be of interest, she instantly became attracted to a special program about teen and young adult drinking difficulties.

When Familiar Alcoholic Signs and Symptoms are Revealed by Individuals Dependent on Alcohol

The speaker discussed the difference between alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse and then got into the subject of alcoholism symptoms and alcoholism warning signs. When the narrator went into detail about a person’s alcoholic behavior and some of the more typical alcoholism symptoms and signs that alcohol addicted individuals display, Daniel got quite disturbed because it basically seemed as if the narrator was talking directly to her.

After watching the TV special, Daniel made a promise to herself that she would call her doctor the next workday and make an appointment to discuss her drinking circumstance.

When the next workday arrived, true to her word, Daniel called her health care professional and made an appointment.  While she was waiting for the day of her appointment to arrive, she went online and did a search for alcoholic symptoms.  Especially noteworthy were the following symptoms or signs: increasing stress, sleep problems, sneaking a couple of extra drinks before social occasions, major relationship and work-related problems, and making excuses to drink at almost every opportunity.

Stated simply, due to the fact that Daniel manifested all of these signs she went further in her online search and found a number of blogs and websites that discussed various alcohol addiction warning signs and symptoms.

One of the symptoms that really captured her awareness was the following: “Do you regularly drink after promising yourself that you won’t?”  While Daniel never concluded that she may have a significant drinking difficulty, after reading about the diverse alcoholism symptoms and warning signs, she couldn’t refute the fact that for the past seven or eight months, she frequently tried but was not successful at greatly decreasing her drinking or quitting entirely.

When Relatives Annoy You by Taking a Dim View of Your Irresponsible Drinking

Another alcoholic symptom that caught her curiosity was the following:  “Have family members irritated by criticizing your problem drinking?”  When Daniel read this she instantly reflected on a recent quarrel she had with her best friend about her abusive drinking.  Additionally, Daniel noticeably remembered a recent fight she had with her parents about her abusive drinking behavior.  Due to the fact that Daniel sincerely believed that she didn’t have a drinking problem, when people brought up her drinking behavior she of course got perturbed and annoyed.

A third alcohol addiction symptom was the following:  “Do you desire a drink when you first get up in the morning?”  Until now, Daniel had been dishonest with herself about her drinking behavior.  After reading about the aforementioned alcoholism warning signs, conversely, she knew in her heart of hearts that she was facing a serious drinking issue, especially given the fact that she now felt that she required a drink the first thing when she got up to reduce her constant worry.

If this wasn’t enough, the next alcoholism symptom really got her thinking about her drinking behavior: “Do you drink to escape from difficulties or worries?” When she reflected on her life for a few moments, she grasped the fact that nearly in every stressful circumstance in the past several months, she told herself that she needed a drink to help deal with the disorder in her life.

The final alcohol addiction warning sign that made her feel fairly ill at ease about her drinking behavior was the following:  “Has your energy shrunk since you started drinking more repeatedly?” When Daniel read this sign she visibly recognized that drinking had become a severe problem in her life because of her diminished energy level and also because she stopped pursuing her dreams and her passions.

Conclusion:  When Sadness Turns Into Something Exciting and Something to Look Forward To

After reflecting on all of these negative alcohol dependency signs and symptoms, Daniel at first felt sad. Then something thrilling  came about.  She realized that she was going to see her health care professional about her drinking problems and she also knew that she would talk about all of the above alcohol addiction warning signs and symptoms with her. If truth be told, for the first time in quite a lot of months, Daniel honestly felt a sense of hopefulness because she was dealing with her drinking problems and was in the end ready to make the necessary alterations so that she could reclaim the life that was sliding away.
